Additional information

Issued as part of Mongolia's wave of commemorative silver releases through the mid-1990s, a period when the newly post-communist government leaned heavily on Chinggis Khan as a symbol of national identity following decades of Soviet-imposed suppression of his image. Under the Mongolian People's Republic, public veneration of Chinggis had been actively discouraged — his name was largely absent from official culture until the late 1980s.

The Schön 163 attribution places this among a fairly well-documented run, though secondary market examples vary considerably in packaging completeness, which affects realized prices more than the coin itself warrants.
