Mongolia has issued an extensive range of silver commemoratives featuring foreign political and cultural figures — a revenue-driven program targeting thematic collectors rather than domestic circulation. Che Guevara's inclusion sits alongside an eclectic roster that spans Hollywood actors, historical generals, and pop icons, with no particular ideological coherence to the series.
Guevara was executed in Bolivia in October 1967 on orders coordinated with CIA involvement. His image has since become one of the most commercially reproduced in the world — something he would almost certainly have found intolerable.
