Nur-Sultan lasted barely three years as a city name. The capital was renamed from Astana in March 2019 to honor the retiring president Nursultan Nazarbayev — then quietly renamed back to Astana in September 2022, following Nazarbayev's political disgrace in the aftermath of the January 2022 unrest. This coin, struck in 2021, is now a frozen artifact of that short-lived designation, its name already obsolete before most collector orders shipped.
