Kazakhstan hosted the 11th Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Astana in June 2011, and this commemorative note was issued to mark the occasion — a relatively rare instance of a Central Asian state using its currency to signal its position within the Islamic world rather than its Soviet-era institutional history. The OIC summit itself was a significant diplomatic moment for Kazakhstan, the first former Soviet republic to chair the organisation.
Pick 37 is a single-year commemorative with no successor issue. The cotton substrate and watermark-only security profile place it firmly at the lower end of the anti-counterfeiting spectrum for a note of this denomination.
