Issued to mark the 800th anniversary of Jochi's ulus — the westernmost division of the Mongol Empire assigned to Jochi, eldest son of Genghis Khan — this coin commemorates a polity that eventually evolved into the Golden Horde, which dominated the Eurasian steppe and extracted tribute from Rus' principalities for over two centuries.
