Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, featuring a shield supported by a kob antelope to the left and a grey crowned crane to the right, with a traditional drum and the River Nile represented on the shield. A scroll at the base bears the national motto in the exergue. The issuer legend 'BANK OF UGANDA' arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by the date '19 96' in the middle field on either side of the arms. The denomination '1000 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower rim, all within a finely reeded border.
