The stamp design reproduces the 7½d Australian stamp issued for the XVIth Olympiad held in Melbourne in 1956, showing an Olympic torch bearer in motion surrounded by the Southern Cross stars, surmounted by the five Olympic rings, with the inscriptions 'AUSTRALIA' above and 'XVIth OLYMPIAD MELBOURNE' within the stamp field.
