Uganda's wildlife-themed collector issues of the early 2000s were produced under licensing arrangements common to small-economy mints at the time, with the actual striking typically contracted to private minting houses in Europe rather than produced domestically. The Bank of Uganda has no functioning coin production facility of its own.
Silver-plated bronze rather than sterling silver keeps this firmly in the lower tier of the commemorative market — a cost structure that allowed wide distribution through third-party dealers.
