Issued the year after Diana's death in August 1997, this is one of dozens of commemorative coins released by African and Pacific nations cashing in on the global mourning wave — Uganda among the most prolific of these issuers. The Bank of Uganda had no institutional connection to Diana or her charitable work; the license to produce such pieces typically passed through private minting intermediaries, not sovereign initiative.
KM#120 was struck for the collector market and almost certainly never circulated.
