Reverse description A draped bust portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales, is depicted facing three-quarters to the right, rendered in fine relief with detailed coiffure showing her characteristic swept layered hairstyle and a small earring visible at the left ear. The effigy dominates the central field with an expressive, smiling likeness. The legend DIANA PRINCESS OF WALES arcs around the upper and left periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the birth and death years 1961 - 1997 appear in the lower field as a commemorative inscription marking her lifespan.

Additional information

Issued the year after Diana's death in the Paris tunnel crash, this Ugandan commemorative belongs to a flood of memorial coinage that dozens of non-Commonwealth nations rushed to market in 1997–98. Uganda had no particular political or historical connection to Diana; these pieces were produced squarely for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation.
