| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, featuring a traditional Kiganda shield decorated with a sun motif and a drum, flanked by two crossed spears, with a Uganda kob rearing on the left and a grey crowned crane standing on the right as supporters. A floral and foliate base supports the supporters, beneath which a scrolled ribbon bears the national motto in the exergue. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs across the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while 1000 SHILLINGS runs along the lower periphery, and the date 1998 appears in the lower field above the denomination. |
