Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uganda is depicted centrally in the field, featuring a kob antelope as the left supporter and a grey crowned crane as the right supporter, both flanking a shield charged with a sun and traditional drum motifs. Crossed spears appear behind the shield, and a scroll in the base bears the national motto. The issuer legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by a beaded border, while the date 2002 is divided to either side of the central device and the denomination 1000 SHILLINGS curves along the lower field.

Additional information

Uganda's wildlife coinage of the early 2000s was produced largely for the collector export market, with pieces like this having no meaningful circulation history within Uganda itself. The Bank of Uganda authorized these issues primarily as foreign exchange earners, a practice common among smaller economies after the novelty coin market expanded sharply through European distributors in the 1990s.

Silver-plated bronze rather than actual silver — worth noting for anyone assembling a type set under composition assumptions.
