Obverse description The Tanzanian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by two human figures — a male warrior to the left and a female figure to the right — each standing atop a decorative base with native vegetation. The shield is quartered and bears crossed tools in the lower section, with a flaming torch at its apex. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto in Latin script. The legend TANZANIA arcs along the upper rim, with the date 1998 inscribed in the lower field below the arms.
