Obverse description The coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, depicting a shield decorated with a sun motif flanked by a Uganda kob (antelope) rampant on the left and a grey crowned crane standing on the right, both serving as supporters. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in the exergue. The legend 'BANK OF UGANDA' arcs along the upper periphery, with the date '19 94' split to either side of the shield. The denomination '1000 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower rim in bold relief.

Additional information

Uganda's 1994 commemorative program was an unabashed exercise in the tourist coin trade — European architectural subjects had no meaningful connection to Uganda's history or monetary affairs. The Frauenkirche at the time of this issue was still a bombed-out ruin in Dresden, its reconstruction not formally begun until 1994, the same year this coin was struck. Whether that timing was intentional is unclear, but it gives the piece a faintly ironic edge: a celebration struck in the year the rebuilding finally started.
