| Obverse description | Central to the obverse is the Somali national coat of arms, depicting a shield bearing horizontal stripes and a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, with olive branches and a ribbon device below. The legend SOMALI REPUBLIC arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, while the denomination 1000 SHILLINGS is inscribed along the lower border. The date is split either side of the shield, with 20 to the left and 17 to the right. A beaded inner border frames the entire composition. |
