Obverse description Portrait of King George V in an oval vignette at upper right, set against a salmon-pink guilloche underprint with the denomination numeral 1000 in dark ink at upper left. The bilingual value inscription in Arabic script and Gujarati script appears in a central panel, with the issuer title across the top and the legal tender clause along the lower margin. The note is dated Mombasa 15th December 1921 and bears the facsimile signatures of three Members of the East African Currency Board.

Reverse description Central vignette of a lion passant within an oval frame, surrounded by an elaborate guilloche border with rosette and lathe-work ornaments. The denomination numeral 1000 appears in each corner, and two horizontal panels above and below the central oval carry the bilingual value inscription. The overall printing is executed in a single warm brown tone.
