| 表面の銘文 | BANK OF UGANDA 1999 FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY 1000 SHILLINGS |
| 裏面の説明 | The central field depicts a relief map of Europe overlaid with a geodetic grid, with the European continent prominently rendered. Affixed to the field by paper applique are two coin-shaped discs representing both the obverse and reverse of the Austrian 50 euro cent coin, shown in gold coloring with the numeral 50 and the inscription EURO CENT on one face, and the Secession Building of Vienna on the other. A ring of twelve five-pointed stars encircles the lower periphery, referencing the European Union. The surrounding legend reads THE NEW EUROPEAN CURRENCY. |

Issued in anticipation of the Euro's 1999 launch, Uganda produced this novelty piece as part of a broader wave of non-Eurozone nations striking commemorative coins featuring embedded or attached specimens of the incoming European currency. The copper-nickel host coin carries an actual 50 Euro cent planchet affixed to its surface — a physical artifact of the Euro's introduction rather than a representation of it.
Bank of Uganda had no stake in European monetary union. These were purely commercial issues aimed at collector markets, authorized by the issuing authority for revenue.
