| Reverse description | The reverse features an engraved map of Europe in low relief occupying the central field, with a ring of twelve stars along the lower periphery referencing the European Union. Affixed to the coin's surface is a paper applique reproducing both the obverse and reverse of the German 5 euro cent coin, showing the Brandenburg Gate design and the denomination 5 EURO CENT. The circular legend THE NEW EUROPEAN CURRENCY is inscribed along the upper periphery, interrupted by the applique element. The overall design commemorates the introduction of the euro as the new common European currency. |
