| Obverse description | The obverse features the coat of arms of Uganda centered in the field, displaying a shield supported by a Uganda kob (antelope) to the left and a grey crowned crane to the right, with a crossed spear and arrow behind the shield. A ribbon scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto. The circular legend reads BANK OF UGANDA at the top, with the date 1999 divided on either side of the arms, and the denomination 1000 SHILLINGS along the lower arc. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a globe depicted with latitude and longitude grid lines, overlaid with a raised relief map of Europe in the field. Two appliqued paper facsimiles of the Belgian 20 euro cent coin are affixed to the surface: the upper disc shows the reverse of the 20 euro cent piece inscribed 20 EURO CENT, while the lower disc shows the obverse bearing the effigy of King Albert II of Belgium in right-facing profile, encircled by twelve stars of the European Union.
