Puntland's attributed 1000 Shilling notes exist in a genuinely murky corner of Somali monetary history. The Central Bank of Somalia effectively ceased functioning after Siad Barre's government collapsed in January 1991, and various regional authorities subsequently issued their own currency — some with legitimate intent, some not. This note dates to 1990, putting it right at the edge of that collapse, and attribution to Puntland specifically remains contested among specialists.
The Indonesian printing attribution, if accurate, is an odd logistical choice for a Somali regional issue and has never been definitively documented. Handle all provenance claims on this series with caution.
