Opmerkingen

Austria's 1,000-Schilling denomination carried real weight in everyday commerce during the 1960s — not a note most people held for long. This issue, the third and final variant of the post-occupation 1,000-Schilling type, was produced entirely in-house at the ONB's own printing works in Vienna, a capability the bank had rebuilt methodically after the war. Roman Hellmann's design work for the series was among the more restrained of the period, avoiding the heavy allegorical clutter common to contemporaneous European high-value issues.

With just over 12 million printed, the run was modest relative to Austria's economic activity in that decade. Superseded by the 1983 series, most circulated examples show considerable handling wear on the folds.
