| Obverse description | Olive-green intaglio-printed certificate with ornate guilloche border and the title POST OFFICE 5 YEAR NATIONAL SAVINGS CERTIFICATE across the top. The Ashoka Lion Capital emblem of India appears at left and right flanking the denomination 1000 RUPEES ONE THOUSAND, with a central serial number field and manuscript text area below. A Post Office date stamp impression appears at centre-bottom alongside the Postmaster's signature panel. |

The Government of India undertake to pay him, on presentation of this Certificate at the aforesaid Post Office on or after the __________ Rs. 1150/- or at any earlier date the sum not exceeding Rs. 1150/- specified on the reverse of this Certificate as due on such date.
