Obverse description Central gilt medallion bearing the official emblem of People's Bank Sri Lanka: a stylised cogwheel enclosing a human figure with outstretched arms, flanked by two laurel branches, all within a circular legend reading 'PEOPLE'S BANK' and its Sinhala equivalent 'මහජන බැංකුව' in the inner ring. The surrounding silver field carries trilingual legends in Sinhala, Tamil, and Latin reading 'ජනහද හඬුනත', 'மக்களின் மனமறிந்து', and 'THE PULSE OF THE PEOPLE' arranged around the periphery. The founding and jubilee years '1961' and '2011' appear in the lower field flanking a large decorative '50' numeral, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the institution. The entire design is enclosed by an ornate wave-pattern border running along the rim.

Reverse description Central octagonal panel in the field bearing the large denomination numeral '1000' above trilingual inscriptions in Sinhala 'රුපියල් දහසයි', Tamil 'ஆயிரம் ரூபாய்', and Latin 'THOUSAND RUPEES', with a faint outline map of Sri Lanka visible in the background of the panel. The surrounding annular field carries the country name in three scripts: Sinhala 'ශ්‍රී ලංකා' at the top, Latin 'SRI LANKA' to the right, and Tamil 'இலங்கை' to the left. The issue year '2011' is inscribed at the base of the field below the central octagon. Decorative floral and scroll ornaments separate the trilingual country-name legends in the outer ring, which is itself bounded by the same wave-pattern border as the obverse.
