| 裏面の説明 | The central field depicts two cricketers in dynamic play — a batsman in full forward defensive stance facing a wicketkeeper crouching behind the stumps, both rendered in fine relief. Below the central motif, the denomination is expressed as '1000' in large numerals, accompanied by the inscription 'ONE THOUSAND RUPEES' in Latin script, with equivalent legends in Sinhala and Tamil above. The upper portion of the field carries the bold legend '1999 CRICKET WORLD CUP' with the tournament dates 'MAY 14 – JUNE 20' below it. The names of the twelve participating nations are arranged in a continuous circular legend around the periphery, separated by dotted intervals and star devices, reading: SRI LANKA, WEST INDIES, ZIMBABWE, AUSTRALIA, BANGLADESH, ENGLAND, INDIA, KENYA, NEW ZEALAND, PAKISTAN, SCOTLAND, SOUTH AFRICA. |

Sri Lanka co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup alongside India and Pakistan — the tournament in which the Sri Lankan team, led by Arjuna Ranatunga, defeated Australia in the final at Lahore. This coin was issued three years after that victory, when the memory of it still carried genuine national weight. The 1996 triumph remains Sri Lanka's only World Cup title.
