Vorderseitenbeschreibung Central vignette of Mount Everest rendered in fine intaglio engraving occupies the left portion of the note, set within an ornate traditional Nepalese architectural border with column motifs. At centre, a large oval guilloche underprint frames a silver intaglio portrait medallion of a deity figure, flanked by Devanagari inscriptions and the Governor's signature below. The Harati temple vignette appears at lower centre-right, with the Swayambhunath stupa visible above, while a Nepalese coin motif is set into the upper-right arch panel.

Rückseitenbeschreibung Two Asian elephants, rendered in detailed intaglio engraving, stand together on a grassy plain with a naturalistically coloured background of ochre-toned vegetation and trees. The Nepal Rastra Bank seal in circular form appears at lower right, and denomination numerals "1000" are printed in both lower corners against a deep guilloche border. The issuer's name is inscribed in bold red letterpress at the top, with the date and denomination in English at right centre.

Anmerkungen

Nepal Rastra Bank introduced this high-denomination note as part of a broader redesign series that followed the 2015 earthquake recovery period, during which the central bank faced significant pressure to modernize its currency infrastructure. The 1000 Rupee note sits at the top of the circulating series and consequently attracts the most sophisticated counterfeiting attempts — the security thread specification on this issue is a windowed type, an upgrade from the fully embedded thread used on earlier high-value Nepali notes.

Pick 82 superseded the long-running Pick 67 series. The shift in format — notably the reduced height compared to pre-2010 issues — reflects a standardization push aligned with ATM compatibility requirements across Nepal's expanding banking network.
