Obverse description At left, a portrait of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev in ceremonial plumed crown is set within an ornate cartouche, with the watermark window reserved at right. The central vignette depicts the Swayambhunath Stupa together with the Harati Temple over a multicolour guilloche underprint. Reverse description The central vignette presents an intaglio-rendered Asian elephant in a naturalistic terai landscape with tall grasses and riverside vegetation. At right, a Devanagari denomination inscription reads 'रूपयाँ एक हजार' above the English legend 'RUPEES ONE THOUSAND', with the National Crest of Nepal in an arched cartouche at far right. The watermark window occupies the left portion, flanked by elaborate scrollwork borders and numeral '1000' in contrasting panels at lower left and right.
