Opmerkingen

The Bank of Mauritius turned to Thomas De La Rue for virtually its entire post-independence note production, and this 1000-rupee denomination was among the highest values in circulation during a period when the island's economy was accelerating sharply on the back of export processing zones and a booming textile sector. At that level, the note functioned primarily as a commercial instrument rather than everyday tender.

I. Ramphul served as Governor while R. Tacouri signed as Managing Director — a pairing that places this note within a specific and relatively brief window of the bank's administrative history. Pick 41 is not a particularly rare issue, but the signature combination matters for precise attribution within the series.
