| Obverse description | Printed in violet, green and light blue, the obverse carries an intaglio portrait of King George VI in military uniform at left, set within an ornate arched guilloche border with floral cornerpieces. A central lozenge-shaped guilloche vignette bears the denomination legend 'ONE THOUSAND RUPEES', flanked by a circular underprint panel at right, with the date '1ST SEPTEMBER 1941' and the facsimile signatures of the Commissioners of Currency below. Inscriptions appear in English, Sinhala and Tamil, with the numeral '1000' repeated at corners and along the lower margin. |
