1000 Rupees 10th Anniversary of Independence

The Seychelles gained independence from Britain on June 29, 1976, though the new republic lasted barely a year before France-Albert René seized power in a coup on June 5, 1977 — ousting the democratically elected James Mancham while he was attending a Commonwealth conference in London. This commemorative marks a decade since independence, which in practice meant a decade largely under René's single-party socialist state, the Seychelles People's Progressive Front.

KM#56 was struck in a limited proof issue by the Royal Mint. The .917 fineness is standard crown gold.
