| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Maldives occupies the central field, depicting two crossed national flags flanking a crescent and star device beneath a coconut palm tree. A decorative ribbon or scroll bearing Arabic script in the exergue area unites the lower portion of the arms. The country name MALDIVES appears as a legend along the upper right periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 1000 RUFIYAA is inscribed along the lower periphery in Latin characters.
