Transnistria issued this coin in 2001 as part of a broader program documenting Orthodox religious architecture within its claimed territory — a deliberate effort to assert cultural and historical identity for a state unrecognized by any UN member. The Church of Paraskeva of Serbia in Zozuliany is dedicated to a 3rd-century Christian martyr venerated across the Eastern Orthodox world, particularly in Serbian and Romanian traditions, which reflects the mixed ethnic composition of the Dniester region.
