Additional information

Belarus issued a series of large-format silver kilo coins in the mid-2000s as part of a broader program targeting the international collector market — a deliberate revenue strategy at a time when the country's domestic economy remained tightly controlled under Lukashenko. The Belarusian ballet series drew on the genuine international reputation of the Bolshoi Ballet's Minsk counterpart, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, which traces its origins to 1933 and produced dancers who competed seriously with Moscow and Leningrad during the Soviet period.

KM#170 is one of several thematic kilo issues from this program, most struck at the Mint of Poland in Warsaw rather than domestically.
