Armenia's Government Bank in Yerevan operated under genuinely chaotic conditions in 1919 — the First Republic was simultaneously fighting territorial disputes with Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, running near-empty treasury coffers, and trying to establish functional banking infrastructure from scratch. The 1000 Rouble denomination was among the highest-value notes the republic issued, printed locally under severe material constraints rather than through an established European security printer.
The Armenian rouble issues of this period depreciated rapidly and were superseded when Soviet authority absorbed the republic in late 1920. Surviving notes frequently show rough cutting and uneven impression — not damage, but artifacts of the original production.
