1000 Rials Mohammad Rezā Pahlavī (Type 1 Overprint)

In the chaotic months following the February 1979 revolution, the new Islamic government needed to remove the Shah's image from circulation immediately but lacked the infrastructure to print entirely new notes. The solution was a provisional overprint applied to existing De La Rue-printed stock, obliterating the royal portrait while the replacement series was prepared. Three distinct signature and ink combinations exist under Pick 115, reflecting the rapid turnover of central bank officials during that period — Mehran and Ansari representing the transitional administration, Khoshkish and Yeganeh the consolidating revolutionary government.

The brown overprint variant on P-105d stock is the scarcest of the three.
