| 正面描述 | At center, the denomination '1000 Rials' is inscribed in Persian numerals within the field, flanked by wheat spikes on either side. The legend 'جمهوری اسلامی ایران' (Islamic Republic of Iran) arcs along the upper periphery, while the Persian calendar date '۱۳۸۹' (1389 / 2010) appears at the lower portion of the field. The design is rendered in a clean, modern engraving style typical of contemporary Iranian circulation coinage. |

This denomination was introduced as part of Iran's broader effort to manage chronic inflation that had steadily eroded the purchasing power of smaller rial coins since the 1979 revolution. By 2010, 1000 rials bought roughly what a single rial had purchased three decades earlier.
Iran has periodically discussed redenominating its currency — proposals to replace the rial with the toman at a 10,000:1 ratio have circulated in the Majlis for years without resolution.
