Reverse description A bold Cross of the Order of Christ occupies the center of the reverse, formed by four quadrants each decorated with five pellets arranged in a quincunx pattern, creating a distinctive decorative effect. The cross is rendered in high relief with splayed terminals. The surrounding circular legend reads IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign thou shalt conquer'), with the date 1679 incorporated into the legend at the top of the coin. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border consistent with the milled production technique of the Lisbon mint.
