Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms, crowned and set upon an ornate cartouche, occupies the central field; flanking the shield are military trophies including crossed cannon, rifles, and a sword, evoking the Peninsular War. Below the arms, crossed laurel and palm branches symbolize victory and peace. The commemorative dates 1808 and 1814 appear above the crown on either side, and the denomination 1000 REIS is inscribed along the lower exergue. The circumferential legend CENTENARIO DA GUERRA PENINSULAR frames the upper field, all within a beaded border.
