Obverse description The obverse of the host coin displays the crowned royal cipher 'J' (for King José I) surmounted by an ornate Portuguese crown in the center of the field, flanked by quatrefoil rosettes. The denomination '600' appears to the left in vertical arrangement, and the date 1758 is inscribed along the lower portion of the field between dotted separators. A bold rectangular countermark bearing the letter 'M', applied by Mozambique authorities to revalue the coin to 1000 Réis, is prominently struck to the right of the crowned cipher. The entire design is contained within a milled border.
