| Beschrijving keerzijde | A panoramic cityscape of Rome is depicted in fine engraved detail, showcasing the iconic silhouette of St. Peter's Basilica and the cylindrical mass of Castel Sant'Angelo along the Tiber riverbank. The composition captures classical Roman architecture rendered in high relief, with intricate architectural and landscape detail filling the field. The toponym ROME appears as a legend above the central design, identifying the celebrated city commemorated on this issue. |

The Royal Mint has produced 100mm, kilogram-class gold proofs sporadically since the 1980s, but the 2022 issue marks one of the final strikes bearing Elizabeth II's effigy before her death in September of that year. Production of coins at this specification is severely constrained by the physical demands on dies — a 100mm proof surface requires extraordinary pressure uniformity, and the Mint historically limits mintages on these pieces to the low hundreds.
The Spink reference CV16 places this within the Commonwealth portrait series using the fifth and final Jody Clark effigy, adopted in 2015.
