Alderney, a Crown dependency of roughly 2,000 residents with no central bank and no independent monetary policy, has issued commemorative coinage through the authority of the British Crown since the 1990s — effectively licensing its name to a bullion and collector market it could never sustain domestically. This one-kilo piece marks Elizabeth II's 95th birthday in 2021, the same year Prince Philip died and the Queen carried out her first public engagements as a widow. It was among the last major milestone issues before her death in September 2022.
