The PIT-CNT — Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores / Convención Nacional de Trabajadores — is Uruguay's unified national trade union federation, formed in 1964 when two rival labor confederations merged. The 2016 issue commemorates the organization's history within a broader Uruguayan tradition of honoring civic and social institutions on collector silver. Uruguay legalized trade unions relatively early in the region, and the PIT-CNT survived the 1973–1985 military dictatorship as a banned but persistent underground structure before re-emerging as a central force in the democratic transition.
