Reverse description The central vignette presents a detailed intaglio rendering of the Casa de la Libertad (House of Liberty) in Sucre, its colonial baroque facade rendered with fine line engraving against a plain ground, with the caption CASA DE LA LIBERTAD beneath. To the left, a large guilloche rosette contains the numeral '1000' at its centre. The bank title appears in a bold letterpress panel at the top, with the denomination legend in a similar panel at the foot, and the printer's imprint at the base.

Comments

Bolivia's 1982 hyperinflationary spiral made this denomination obsolete almost immediately after issue. The Peso Boliviano itself was replaced wholesale in 1987 by the Boliviano at a rate of one million to one — a ratio that tells you more about those years than any economic summary could.

Three signature combinations exist for P#167, reflecting rapid turnover in the Central Bank's leadership during a period of acute political and fiscal instability. The Rossel pairings are considerably more common than the Milton Paz variant.
