| 裏面の説明 | Central vignette presents a detailed architectural rendering of the Universidad de Guanajuato, its ornate façade and tower occupying the middle ground, flanked to the left by an elaborate fountain set before the university precinct. The composition is executed in blue and violet tones over a pale guilloche underprint, with the denomination '1000' repeated in the upper corners and the legend 'BANCO DE MEXICO' in the upper left. The inscription 'UNIVERSIDAD DE GUANAJUATO' appears below the main building vignette, and 'MIL' runs along the lower border in stylised letterpress. |

The P#121 1000 Pesos belongs to the "D" series, the last of Banco de México's cotton paper issues before the bank began transitioning higher denominations to polymer substrate. By the early 2000s, the 1000 Peso note was circulating heavily enough that lifespans in commerce were notoriously short — high-denomination notes in Mexico at this period moved fast through informal markets and saw accelerating wear relative to lower values printed on more durable stock.
Banco de México has printed its own notes in-house since the 1960s, one of the few central banks in Latin America to do so consistently across this period.
