By 1967, Uruguay was deep into the inflationary spiral that would eventually force a full currency replacement with the New Peso in 1975 — at a rate of 1000 old pesos to one new unit, which tells you exactly what this denomination was worth by the end. The Banco Central itself had only been established in 1967, making this among the earliest notes issued under its authority rather than that of the Banco de la República.
Thomas De La Rue printed the series in London, as they did for much of Latin America during this period. Pick 49 is not rare in circulated grades, but lightly used examples are harder to find given how aggressively the old peso depreciated and how quickly high denominations moved through commerce.
