The P#269 1000 Pesos series spans the Perón years almost exactly — from his consolidation of power through his overthrow in September 1955. The Banco Central had been nationalized in 1946, folded directly into the executive, which meant note issuance during this period was as much a political instrument as a monetary one. Inflation ran persistently through the early 1950s, and high-denomination notes like this one turned over quickly.
Known to show foxing and paper fatigue in surviving examples, a consequence of wartime and immediate postwar paper stock of inconsistent quality sourced under import constraints.
