备注

By 1896, the Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba was issuing notes under severe strain — the Cuban War of Independence had been grinding since February 1895, and Spanish colonial finances on the island were collapsing under the weight of military expenditure. The 1000 Pesos denomination was not a note for ordinary commerce; at this value, it functioned almost entirely as an interbank and government settlement instrument.

The P#51B suffix distinguishes a signature variety within the series. Cuban colonial notes of this period are frequently encountered with heavy browning and brittleness, a known condition problem attributed to the poor-quality paper stock used as the war disrupted normal supply chains from the peninsula.
