Western Sahara has no functioning mint, no recognized government by the United Nations, and no circulating currency of its own — which is precisely the point. These issues were produced by the Banco Central de los Estados de África Occidental, a commercial operation exploiting the territory's ambiguous political status to sell collector coins through international distributors. Edison's inclusion here is purely commercial; he shares the series with dozens of other historical figures across multiple denominations.
