| Opmerkingen |
Pick 102 is a replica — not a reproduction issued for study or display, but a wartime emergency facsimile printed by the FNMT in Madrid when the Republican government found itself unable to access the original plates. The genuine 1000 Pesetas notes of this type had been produced with considerably more sophisticated security printing; the replica strips that back to basics, which is precisely why it exists as a separate catalog entry rather than a variant.
Spain in 1936 was not one banking system but two — Nationalist and Republican authorities each issuing currency and each contesting the legitimacy of the other's paper. That political fracture is the direct reason this facsimile was produced at all.
