The Generalitat de Catalunya was dissolved by Franco in 1938 and its government continued in exile — first in France, then Mexico City. This 1950 trial note was produced by that exiled administration, a government with no territory, no treasury, and no prospect of imminent return. It was a political act in paper form: an assertion of institutional continuity during the deepest years of the dictatorship, when any public expression of Catalan autonomy inside Spain was actively suppressed.
Trial pieces from this exile series were never issued into circulation. Production quantities were extremely limited, and most examples that survive did so in archival or personal collections rather than through any redemption or banking channel.
