This note was never legal tender in any conventional sense. The "Emprèstit Pau Claris" was a patriotic loan instrument issued by Catalan nationalist circles in exile, not a functioning provisional government with territorial control — the title "Govern Provisional de Catalunya" was aspirational, a political statement printed on paper during the Primo de Rivera dictatorship, when any such activity inside Spain carried serious legal risk.
Pau Claris, the 17th-century president of the Generalitat who briefly placed Catalonia under French protection during the Reapers' War of 1640, was a deliberate and pointed choice of namesake. Miquel Soldevila's involvement signals this was produced with genuine artistic intent, not haste.
